Search Engines Fight for the Second Place

Monitoring service StatCounter report that for the second time since its launch, Microsof’s “new” search engine Bing has surpassed Yahoo Search as the second most used search engine in the United States. Shortly after publicly debuting the new service, Bing already jumped over Yahoo Search - if only for one day – which many attributed to the launch momentum. However Google is firmly in first place in the search engine arena.

Google Sites led the U.S. core search market in June with 65.0 percent of the searches conducted, followed by Yahoo! Sites (19.6 percent), and Microsoft Sites (8.4 percent). Ask Network captured 3.9 percent of the search market, followed by AOL LLC with 3.1 percent.

Americans conducted 14 billion searches in June, down slightly from May. Google Sites accounted for 9.1 billion searches, followed by Yahoo! Sites (2.8 billion), Microsoft Sites (1.2 billion), Ask Network (552 million) and AOL LLC (439 million).

New Azerbaijani Internet Search Portal

A new Internet search portal in Azerbaijan called Yumroo.az that will operate in three languages – Azerbaijani, English and Russian – is scheduled to launch in October. It includes search, news and postal functions. Additional services envisage on-line shops, entertainment services and economic analysis. “When all the planned technical work is completed, the number of internet users will reach 20,000 in the first stage,” a source said. U.S. Search Engine Rankings – July 2008

comScore, Inc. today released its monthly comScore Search Analysis of the U.S. search marketplace. In July 2008, Americans conducted 11.8 billion core searches (up 2 percent versus June) as Google Sites slightly extended its lead in core search market share by 0.4 percentage points.

Google Sites led the U.S. core search market in July with 61.9 percent of the searches conducted, up from 61.5 percent in June, followed by Yahoo! Sites (20.5 percent), Microsoft Sites (8.9 percent), Ask Network (4.5 percent), and AOL LLC (4.2 percent).

July U.S. Expanded Search Rankings

In the comScore July 2008 analysis of the top properties where search
activity is observed, Google Sites led with 9.9 billion searches, a 4-percent
increase versus June. Yahoo! Sites ranked second with 2.5 billion searches,
followed by Microsoft Sites with 1.1 billion and AOL LLC with 814 million.
